Are Mayflies in Trouble?

When someone asks, “Who do you know at Orvis?”, the answer is always, “Tom Rosenbauer.” Of course there have been others over the years but Tom really is the voice of Orvis, if not the face of Orvis, too. His books, articles, podcasts, public appearances, and fully committed life to fly fishing has made him one of the most recognized names in our sport today. His Orvis Podcasts are up to 12 million downloads and when Tom speaks, people listen. It doesn't hurt that he's down to earth, has an engaging voice and everyone likes him.

Awhile back, journalist and writer for the Washington Post, Robert O'Harrow drew

attention for an article he wrote about mayflies being in trouble and it wasn't long after that Tom had the author as a guest on his podcast. When I saw the length, an hour and 22 minutes, I decided that I would listen to part of it to see if I wanted to use it here or not. Well, I listened to all of it and couldn't get it out of my head for days. I'm still thinking about it and some of the points and observations made that has to do with a lot more than just our love of fly fishing – although that's a really big part of the podcast. We hope that you'll take a listen and see for yourself. Thank you Tom and Robert.

Last week we missed Kim's photo from our week at Pira. It's such a great fish and a great smile, that we couldn't just leave it out. Congratulations Kim!

That's all for this week. Don't forget the NJ show, doors open at 9:00 a.m. on Friday!
