Intricate Bay Lodge, Alaska

July 22-28, 2023

We've come full circle. Back in the early 1990's when we started hosting trips in Alaska, we spent many years at Iliaska Lodge on Iliamna Lake. The years since found us in other great parts of Alaska, but now we are excited to return to the rivers we remember and to Intricate Bay Lodge... the opportunity has rekindled a love affair.

The new Intricate Bay Lodge (IBL) did not exist until 2014, having been completely rebuilt after a devastating fire.  IBL is located in a prime location on the eastern shore of Lake Iliamna, providing easy access to the best trout and salmon rivers in the Bristol Bay area.  In Gamble at Iliamna, Angust Cameron writes, "It just may be true that fly fishing here is unmatched anywhere in the world." Home rivers are the Copper and Gibraltar; synonymous with big rainbows, but there are also many fly-out rivers very close- the Moraine, Funnel, Battle, American, Kvichak, Newhalen and Talarik, and others.

Our departure is timed for both dry fly fishing and the rainbow feeding frenzy that happens when the salmon start to spawn. The largest sockeye salmon runs in the world begin in this region and as the salmon move into the rivers brutish, big-shouldered rainbows stack up in the rivers to follow the salmon presenting anglers with a good chance at a true trophy.

Intricate Bay is a small operation with 5 double guest rooms to entertain 10 guests per week, plus a coule cabins. Camaraderie, comfort, great food, amazing sunsets, quiet beauty and the anticipation of a new adventure each day is the essence of Intricate Bay Lodge.  We hope you join us for what we think is the best of what Alaska has to offer.
