Bighorn River, Montana

The Bighorn River in Montana was one of our first hosted trip destinations and it's remained a constant for over 30 years. We've seen high water, low water, warm water, cold water – depending on rainfall and what they do with releases up at the dam, but one thing that is always predictable, always certain is that you will catch fish.
It's often said that there are no little fish in the river because they are seldom caught. But there are miles of back channels, eddies, and weedy marshes that make perfect habitat for small fish. The Bighorn is full of islands and side channels and one can simply disappear for hours during a good hatch when the 16-20” fish are up and feeding. We plan our August departure to the Bighorn hopeful that we will have hoppers and tricos which, when they're on, can produce spectacular fishing. And then there are the occasional Yellow Sallies, Mahoganys, Tricos, Black Caddis, and the list goes on. And don't forget the nymph fishing, always a dependable bet too. Guests can settle in and comfortably fish from the boat or use the it for transportation and get out to wade the riffles, runs and pools.
Most fishing days conclude at the Bighorn River Lodge private boat ramp, literally a 2 minute walk to the lodge where a cold drink and fishing stories are shared among the day's returning anglers. Bighorn River Lodge is the only lodge situated directly on the banks of the upper Bighorn River which makes it perfect for an hour of fishing after dinner, or perhaps simply going for a walk to see what's hatching at dusk.
No one does “Montana hospitality” better than the Bighorn River Lodge with the log style construction, shady porches, overstuffed leather furniture, the hearth room, and the stone fireplace, all overlooking the river. The managers, Rick & Cheryl Gehweiler and their staff are amazing and guests instantly fall in love with the lodge. We are incredibly lucky to have two weeks at BRL in the prime season!
Your week will include 7 nights/6 days guided fishing, all meals, transfers to/from Billings, and MT fishing license. See itinerary for complete details and pricing. Airfare, tips and incidentals are not included. 2 groups, 2 weeks.
Come and enjoy the Bighorn with us, you won't be disappointed.
