Reel Action Lodge

August 5-14, 2021

August is silver salmon time on the Kanektok at the Reel Action Camp. We're very lucky to have a week at camp during the silver run as August always sells out quickly. As the silver salmon pour into the Kanektok River, and with the camp situated at the mouth, there's no better place to be for silver fishing. The silver escapement goal is 50,000 per season and they all pass by camp. Along with the silvers will be leopard rainbows, sockeye, dolly varden, grayling and maybe still some pinks and chum. The camp is located in southwestern Alaska near the village of Quinhagak and is perfectly situated within the Togiak National Wildlife Refuge. The Kanektok and its tributaries and braids give anglers access to some of the best sport fishing in the world.

During the month of July the Kanektok receives a run of 50,000 - 200,000 chum salmon and on even years receives a run of over 100,000 pink salmon. The river also has a run of 50,000 - 200,000 sockeye salmon and 20,000 - 35,000 dolly varden (arctic char) passing the fish weir last. And with these salmon come the rainbow trout.

Reel Action is a full service tent lodge designed to provide guests with all the comforts needed for living in the bush. The lodge is located one mile from tide water and was carefully chosen to provide guests a front row seat of the freshest chrome bright fly fishing action in Alaska. The best holding water is right in front of the lodge. The Kanektok River leopard rainbows are famous and spectacular when caught on top water flies. Bring your mouse patterns!

The camp features customized wall tents equipped with wood floors and carpeting. The tents are super strong, waterproof, and can withstand the weather conditions in Alaska. For comfort, the camp sleeps single occupancy, one client per tent cabin. The ten cabins are furnished with a padded cot with quilt and high quality sleeping bag and liner, soft pillows, dresser, lantern mosquito coil, clean linens for showering, hangers, screened windows, wifi, and plenty of storage. Quiet generator power for C-Pap machines and even reading material. A master chef serves meals of steak, salmon, and wild game in the dining tent which also features a TV and DVD player, fly tying tables, and general gathering area.

Shower tents (men and women) each have on demand water heaters with hot and cold running water, sink, vanity and mirror. The restrooms are outhouse-type that are cleaned and maintained daily. In addition there is a drying tent for wet clothes, waders, boots, rain gear, etc.

The lodge takes 8-10 anglers a week with a guide to client ratio of two clients per guide assuring guests of the highest level of service. All terminal tackle, leaders and flies are provided by the guides. Guests are welcome to bring their own equipment, but can also choose to travel light. The lodge provides  high quality spey, switch, and single handed rods. Please visit their web site, https://www.reelactionfly.com/, for more information. We hope you can join us at Reel Action, you won't be disappointed.
