Recap on Spain, New Take on an Old Tie, & The Last Cast

Recap on Spain – Album

We've always thought the prettiest place to be in the fall is right here in the northeast and while we still think that, we now have a runner-up – the Pyrenees in Spain. With lodging and meals in the quaint rural mountain village of Aren and fishing reaching out from there in all directions, fall in this part of the world is a very special experience. Enjoy a few of our favorite images and consider joining us in 2018.

New Take on an Old Tie

Planning to tie Clouser minnows this winter? Take a look at Tim Flagler's video using craft fur. Pretty interesting, an excellent video clip too.

The Last Cast

In today's busy world it's hard to slow down long enough to enjoy a few paragraphs of a fishing story, and I admit that I started out by rushing through the first paragraph more speed reading than anything else. But I slowed down thinking to myself that this was pretty good and if I just allowed myself I could transition to the time and place Jeff Galbraith describes. Force yourself to take a long two minutes to read without zipping through. It's a real treat. Thank you Jeff and Sage for bringing this to us.

This may be our last chance to get out and enjoy late fall fishing before winter sets in. We still have November days available for guiding and it looks like mild weather is going to stay for awhile.
Pick a day and come fish with us.

Contest Time

We're putting our heads together and will announce a trivia contest starting soon. Stay tuned for the details. It's sure to be lots of fun and we'll have some great prizes, too.

Update from Spain, Caring for your Fly Line, & The Albie Hunters

Barry & Cathy – From Spain:spain2017

We heard from Barry and Cathy who are with a group fishing in Spain. The fishing is good and the weather is spectacular in the Pyrenees. Non-anglers and anglers are having lots of fun.

Caring for Your Fly Line

For many anglers, it's the end of the season. Among other things like re-proofing your raincoat, checking your rods for any needed attention or repairs, cleaning reels and setting back the drags, replenishing your fly boxes, and so forth, here is a good suggestion from RIO Products on how to clean your fly lines:

The Albie Hunters

Spend some time in Captain Sandy Noyes' boat hunting false albacore off the coast of Stonington, CT, and you quickly realize that this guy knows his stuff. A couple weeks ago we had a couple of amazing days with Sandy & his wife, Gail, (who is as crazy about it as Sandy). We never fished for albies before but knew the fish as a hard fighting saltwater species. We had set aside time in the fall, 2016, when a family illness canceled the trip. Then in September a hurricane made us cancel. Finally two weeks ago Sandy called and said the albies were still around.
We quickly packed and five hours later we were in Mystic, CT. We spent two days casting ten weights and catching our first false albacore. We have to say it's a hoot and Sandy knows his water like no one else. In short, if you like chasing a razor fast saltwater gamefish that's busting bait and will immediately put you into the backing, then this fish is for you. Fall is the season and you may have to go without much notice. Let Sandy know and he will call when the albies show up. Some years the fish stay for a few weeks and other years for a couple months. Just drop everything and go. You'll be so glad you did.
