The Becks Blog for Rio

With all of the Christmas and New Year's excitement, I missed announcing Barry and Cathy's blogs on Rio's website,  so here they are.

Cathy writes from Patagonia about covering water in her article Forrest Gump's Mom was Right. 0336 Mountain light

And Barry's article, In Search of the Worm, is about an aquatic worm hatch (maybe...) in Rhode Island that he and Cathy were in search of last Spring.

Both are great reads and we hope you'll take the time to check them out.  Also, if you're attending The Flyfishing Show in Somerset, NJ this weekend, make sure you stop by Rio's booth to see what's new for this year.

Barry's Sage Blog & Fall fishing in our backyard

I know that as readers you don't hear from Barry often.  Typically it's Cathy or myself blogging and that's because Barry's typically behind his camera giving us something to write about!  However, when Barry does write, it's always worth reading.  Here's a blog he did recently for Sage and I hope you enjoy hearing from him as much as I did.  Click Here to read Barry's Blog

Tres Valles Dec 09505

Joe  I also wanted to let you know that we're having a beautiful Fall season here in NE PA.  The water in Fishing Creek started out low but the recent rain has helped a lot.  Fish are in great shape and it's a beautiful time of year to be on the stream as evidenced here by one of our regular clients, Joe Vacante.

Pebble Mine News

Good morning Folks.  Very big news this week regarding the campaign to protect Bristol Bay.  The major partner behind the proposed Pebble Mine has decided to exit the project.  This is likely in part a response to the massive outpouring of opposition to the proposed Pebble Mine and support for EPA taking action to protect the most productive wild salmon fishery on the planet.  See the news here:  http://www.alaskadispatch.com/article/20130916/anglo-american-withdraws-pebble-mine-project

Laxardal, Iceland

July found us back in Iceland for our second trip. This year we had more clouds and rain, but the fishing was just as good. Once again it was almost all dry fly fishing for big brown trout averaging 4-7 pounds. We used big foam beetles, parachute Adams, and Wulffs. Sometimes we trailed a small nymph but often it was a single dry fly. The river flows north to Husavik where it enters the ocean, just under the Arctic circle. We're already planning to return in late June, 2014.

Tibor Reels- Made in the US

Tedj1

It's no secret that Tibor Reels have a well-earned reputation for quality and endurance.  In 2011, Tibor recieved first place honors from the IGFA for the most world records set on their reels- more than any other reel in history.  While most of us are familiar with the quality products that the Tibor Reel Company produces, what most people don't know is the man behind the reel.  His story is even more impressive than his award winning reels.

Tapered Slip Strike Indicators
The season is in full swing, boats, float tubes, and pontoon boats are getting word from the lakes-"Get out...Go Fishing!" These Slip Strike Indicators are made for those l-o-n-g leaders you need in lake fishing or deep rivers. No matter the length of the leader these slip indicators hold firm during casting and retrieving until the hook is set. The design of these indicators then release and slide down the leader letting you bring the fish to the net instead of 15 or 20 feet from it. What a concept!! The Slip Strike Indicators are tapered for less wind resistance. They are available in 3 sizes and 5 different colors to choose from. Also there are multi-colored packs available in all sizes.
TIS - Small 3/4" Tapered Slip Indicator TISC - 5 Color Combo pack Small 3/4"
