Pira Lodge, Northern Argentina
February 3 - 11, 2017
Isolated in the center of a Natural Reserve over twice the size of the Florida Everglades, Pira Lodge resides in the Ibera Marshlands of Corrientes Province, far north in Argentina. The Ibera Marshland is a vast system of crystal clear creeks, flowing rivers, shallows and lakes. Here, Dorado is King.
Surrounded by the vast 3 million acre Iberia Marsh, Pira affords anglers crystal-clear waters ideal for sight fishing cruising dorado with top water floating lines; a technique that produces explosive, heart stopping strikes. Dorado hammer flies and are known as the most challenging native freshwater fish, "tigers of the river", in Argentina. There is nothing like seeing the flashing golden flank of a dorado as he attacks your fly. Now we can offer this explosive, exceptional fishing and superb accommodations.
The Estancia Laguna Verde offers five spacious rooms, each with a vast wetlands view, private bath, two double beds, air conditioning and ceiling fan. French windows open to the shaded veranda and pool. A separate building, attached by covered galleries, accommodates the spacious living room, bar and dining room, each with tall doors which open up to the wide veranda. Enjoy gourmet dining featuring Argentina's famed "asados", fine Argentine wines and local spirits. Lunch is served at the lodge and after a siesta during the heat of the day, you'll go back for the afternoon session around 3:00, and fish until sunset.
The fishing program at Pira has guests fishing with bilingual guides from comfortable Hell's Bay skiffs with Yamaha motors. 7 to 9 weight rods are recommended with floating and sinking lines and wire leaders. Dorado like big flies, up to 5" long on 3/0 hooks. Plan to use fast retrieves and a brutish strip set to plant the hook. You won't believe that your fish is probably somewhere between 4 and 20 pounds, you'll think it must be at least twice as big from the way it fights.
If you've always wanted to catch hard fighting acrobatic dorado by sight fishing in crystal-clear water and have very nice accommodations, Pira Lodge, is the place. Better come with us and see why. It's wild and it's exciting.
This departure is designed to be dove-tailed with Laguna Verde and you'll notice that the itinerary includes both destinations but each is described and priced separately. Our Pira departure is based on a full departure of 8-10 guests. Please contact us for more information or with questions.
