Join a small group of 6-8 anglers for a one-day fly fishing school with Cathy Beck and Michelle Macus.

Learn the mechanics of fly casting, shooting line, mending, roll casts; all the necessary techniques to get you ready to fish on your own. A strong emphasis is placed on casting before fishing in the afternoon. Classroom topics covered include fly selection, insects, knots, gear, and tackle.

After lunch, the class moves to the stream where wading safety, reading water, presentation, finding fish, and hopefully hooking, landing, and releasing will be practiced. In the event of high water, we'll use a private trout pond on the property.

You may arrange to borrow any equipment needed for the day. With your height and shoe size, we can provide most wader sizes. Rods and reels are also available, although if you are bringing your own, we recommend a graphite rod, 8 to 9 feet in length for a 5 or 6 weight, with a floating line.

Please wear shoes suitable for wet grass, and bring a heavy sweater or jacket, raincoat, extra socks, cap, and polarized sunglasses.

May 31st is our Intermediate to Advanced school. The emphasis will be on extending your cast, double haul, improving your presentation and drifts, and basic entomology with more time on the water. This class is designed for anglers who have been fishing for awhile and would like to improve or are ready for more advanced techniques. It is not a class for beginners. It will be limited to six anglers with three guides: Cathy, Michelle, and Barry. The cost is $225 per person and includes lunch.

The cost for the 2008 basic school is $200 per student and includes lunch and any needed equipment for the day. A $75 deposit is required to reserve space. The balance is due the day of the school with a check or cash. 2008 basic schools are scheduled for the following Saturdays: April 26th, May 10, and May 24. Students should plan to arrive by 8:45 a.m. The school concludes at 5:30 p.m.
